This week, thousands of Thais will attend the 18th Malaysia International Halal Showcase (MIHAS 2022). At this event, a Malaysian trade envoy to Thailand calls the largest event of its kind in the world.
The Malaysian trade commissioner in Kuala Lumpur, Hafiz Shariff, confirmed that the Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (MATRADE) is responsible for arranging the upcoming four-day event.
As Mr. Shariff put it, “Mihas is the biggest halal show ever conducted.”. It also features business matching sessions where guests can meet prospective clients and collaborators. He stated the event will also attract Thai business associates.
He said that beyond food, opportunities exist in Mihas for foreign and local firms. These firms include halal pharmaceuticals, medical equipment, finance, modest fashion, personal care and cosmetics, green technology, and Muslim-friendly tourism.
Mr. Shariff has stated that in 2022, the halal economy will focus on innovation and sustainable measures to drive sustained growth.
With the MIHAS virtual platform, organizers are thinking about making this year’s conference a “hybrid” event.
Since its beginning in 2004, Mihas has allegedly contributed considerably to the global halal economy. Moreover, they helped both domestic and international firms succeed in the halal sector.
In 2019, Mihas welcomed over 30,000 traders and guests. They conducted business worth more than RM1.6 billion in both instants and negotiated transactions.
While MIHAS is initially developing in the ASEAN area, it is gaining international backing from a wide range of stakeholders, from trade embassies to public and private sector organizations.
