São Paulo – In a bid to tap into the lucrative global halal market, Brazilian food and beverage companies are eagerly joining the Halal Brazil project. Global Presence with Halal Brazil has emerged as a powerful force, expanding its global presence and making significant contributions to the halal industry. This initiative, announced during a webinar for businesspeople on Tuesday (4), offers participating companies the opportunity to showcase their products in trade shows and business missions across several countries, including South Africa, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Malaysia, and Indonesia. Registration for the program, which runs until December, is currently open.
Fernanda Dantas, Internationalization Projects Manager at the Arab Brazilian Chamber of Commerce (ABCC), unveiled the events calendar for the upcoming months as part of Halal Brazil. The project, a collaboration between ABCC and the Brazilian Trade and Investment Promotion Agency (ApexBrasil), aims to facilitate the entry of 500 Brazilian companies into the global halal market.
Among the notable events is Malaysia’s MIHAS, a prominent exhibition scheduled to run from September 11 to 15. Known as the world’s largest food and beverage market and the third-largest importer of halal food, Malaysia provides an ideal platform for participants. The project will feature a collective stand at MIHAS, supported by the ABCC, and will include additional events alongside the exhibition, offering valuable opportunities to establish a foothold in the market. With a history dating back to 2004, MIHAS has evolved into a major hub for halal business, generating an impressive USD 513 million worth of deals last year. Dantas expressed optimism about the prospects for Brazilian juices and beverages in this promising market.

The trade mission to South Africa, taking place from November 8 to 17, will encompass visits to Johannesburg, Durban, and Cape Town. South Africa boasts one of the world’s most significant halal markets, characterized by high consumer demand for halal goods. As the second-largest economy in Africa, 40% of the products consumed in South Africa are halal certified.
The mission to Jakarta, Indonesia, from November 8 to 15, holds great promise as well. This initiative includes participation in SIAL Jakarta, a leading regional event running from November 8 to 11. Indonesia, home to the world’s largest Islamic population and ranked as the world’s 16th-largest economy and second-largest halal importer, presents a vibrant market with a strong demand for premium products. The schedule will feature appointments and guided tours to maximize the benefits for participating companies.
As the year draws to a close, two more significant events await. The first is a mission to Saudi Arabia, coinciding with Riyadh’s Saudi Halal Expo, held from November 19 to 21. This multisectoral show focuses on innovation and sustainability, offering a platform for the project to showcase its offerings through a dedicated stand, B2B meetings, and visits. As the world’s largest importer of halal food, Saudi Arabia presents immense growth opportunities.
The year 2023 will culminate with a trade mission to Egypt from December 12 to 14, coinciding with the Food Africa event in Cairo. The Brazilian government will actively participate with a dedicated stand, facilitating connections with buyers and distributors. Egypt, as the second-largest Arab importer of food and beverages from Brazil, offers a gateway into the market. The mission will be tailored to individual company needs, featuring a customized schedule alongside the exhibition.
The halal market, catering to Muslim consumption, represents a vast opportunity for Brazilian products. With 57 member states in the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) and a combined population of 2 billion residents, this market is poised for growth above the global average. Ambassador Osmar Chohfi, President of ABCC, highlighted the potential, stating that these 57 countries boast a GDP of USD 6.5 trillion, with the food and beverage market alone reaching USD 1.260 trillion in 2021. In the previous year, Brazil successfully sold USD 23 billion worth of products to this expansive market.
Additionally, the ABCC will host the 2nd edition of the Global Halal Business (GHB) forum from October 23 to 24 in São Paulo. This event will be followed by the buyer project on October 25 and 26, aiming to bring in 15 international buyers.
Companies interested in participating in these events must join Halal Brazil, possess halal certification or demonstrate an interest in obtaining it, and be exporters or have an interest in exporting. Experience the Global Presence with Halal Brazil and discover how it is revolutionizing the global market with its commitment to authenticity, quality, and ethical practices in halal product certification.
