The 9th Philippine Halal Trade and Tourism Expo (PHTTE) is set to highlight both international and domestic potential and certified halal products. This event will take place from May 23 to 25 at the SMX Convention Center in Davao City and is expected to attract around 5,000 attendees from across the country.
Promoting MSMEs in the Halal Industry
Marilou Ampuan, president of PHTTE, emphasized the expo’s theme, “Resilience in the New Normal: The Impact of Halal Economy Worldwide.” The primary aim is to promote micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) involved in the production of halal products and services in Mindanao. Ampuan stated that the event is designed to provide these enterprises with the exposure and support needed to thrive in the global halal economy.
The expo will feature plenary sessions where industry experts will share their knowledge on halal manufacturing. These sessions are intended to educate key players in the industry on the opportunities and benefits of engaging in the halal business in Mindanao. Topics will range from the basics of halal certification to advanced manufacturing processes.
Major halal manufacturing companies, known for supplying essential materials, will also participate in the expo. Their involvement aims to inspire more MSMEs to enter the halal industry. Ampuan expressed hope that the local halal industry will grow, enabling Mindanao manufacturers to tap into the $7.2 trillion global halal economy.
Representatives from various government agencies, including the Department of Trade and Industry, Department of Tourism, and Department of Agriculture, will attend the expo. These agencies are mandated under Republic Act 10817, also known as the Philippine Halal Export and Development and Promotion Act of 2016, to support the halal industry. Their participation is expected to strengthen and unify efforts to develop and promote the halal ecosystem in the Philippines.
Building a Unified Halal Ecosystem
Ampuan highlighted the importance of government involvement in the halal ecosystem, noting that collaboration between stakeholders is crucial for the industry’s growth. The PHTTE aims to create a cohesive and supportive environment for halal businesses by bringing together various entities under one roof.
The Philippine Halal Trade and Tourism Expo, under the umbrella of the Universal Islamic Foundation, is a non-stock, non-profit organization. It caters to the needs of both Muslims and non-Muslims by providing a platform for worship and Islamic education. Additionally, the foundation aims to conduct halal business domestically and internationally, focusing on halal foods and services.
The PHTTE is dedicated to promoting halal-certified products and the development, processing, and marketing of agricultural products. By showcasing a wide range of halal foods, products, and services, the expo serves as a vital platform for expanding the reach of halal businesses.
The 9th Philippine Halal Trade and Tourism Expo promises to be a landmark event for the halal industry in Mindanao and the Philippines. With a focus on resilience and global impact, the expo will provide valuable opportunities for MSMEs, foster government and industry collaboration, and enhance the growth of halal products in the global market.
