Aligning with National Objectives: MIHAS 2024 aims to drive greater innovation within the global Halal ecosystem, reinforcing Malaysia’s position as a worldwide hub for the Halal industry. This aligns with the objectives of Malaysia’s New Industrial Master Plan 2030 (NIMP 2030) and the Halal Industrial Master Plan 2030 (HIMP 2030). The focus on innovation and sustainability leverages NIMP’s priorities, including economic complexity, technological advancement, Net Zero emissions, and economic security and inclusivity.
According to YB Senator Tengku Datuk Seri Utama Zafrul bin Tengku Abdul Aziz, Minister of Investment, Trade and Industry, fostering innovation and sustainability is key to sustaining Malaysia’s leadership within the global Halal ecosystem. The Halal industry is also recognized as a high-impact sector in the Twelfth Malaysia Plan (12MP), playing a crucial role in job creation and enhancing the standard of living under the MADANI concept.
Showcase of Innovation and Sustainability: MIHAS 2024 will feature various product segments such as pharmaceuticals, Islamic finance, fintech, lifestyle, modest fashion, food ingredients, and related services, highlighting value-added components and value chain integrity within the Halal ecosystem. Halal certification instills trust among global consumers and aligns with Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) expectations. In 2022, Malaysia exported RM23.35 billion worth of Halal ingredients, and the global Halal ingredients market is valued at over US$60 billion according to a 2023 report by The Business Research Company.
YB Dato’ Seri Reezal Merican Naina Merican, Chairman of MATRADE, emphasized MIHAS’ role in fostering business connections and consumer confidence in Halal products through the International Sourcing Programme (INSP). This year, MIHAS aims to attract over 40,000 trade visitors and feature 2,000 exhibition booths from 45 countries.
Driving Business Growth and Sustainability: MIHAS serves as a comprehensive hub for businesses to showcase trends and technologies in the Halal industry, facilitating market expansion and competitiveness. The INSP generated RM1.31 billion in sales last year and will continue to facilitate business meetings between foreign buyers and Malaysian exporters, ensuring a resilient supply chain and innovation to meet global demands.
Knowledge Sharing and Industry Insights: The MIHAS Knowledge Hub will offer conferences, forums, and seminars focusing on trends, market access, and sourcing requirements with industry experts and thought leaders. This initiative aims to provide an invaluable platform for the global Halal business community to exchange experiences and insights.
Global Recognition and Impact: MIHAS’ commitment to innovation and sustainability has been recognized globally. MATRADE received the World Trade Promotion Organisation (WTPO) Award for ‘Best Use of Information Technology’ in 2022. As MIHAS 2024 gears up for its 20th edition, it stands as a testament to Malaysia’s pioneering role in the Halal industry, symbolizing two decades of dedication to fostering trade and innovation within the sector.
