OneAgrix, Inexto, OriginTrail, and their ecosystem partners unveil a revolutionary and comprehensive halal digitization solution, tracing beef from DNA to QR code.
Using only a smartphone, food consumers can now verify the origin of their food, track it through the supply chain, confirm the authenticity of the halal certification, and ensure the product’s genuineness. This end-to-end food traceability technology was demonstrated by OneAgrix, Inexto, OriginTrail, and their ecosystem partners at an upscale café in Dubai, marking the technology’s launch.
As food is sourced globally, the risk of food fraud in the supply chain increases. Food tampering incidents, including mislabeled meat scandals in Europe and Asia, have highlighted the need for food safety to protect consumers’ health and well-being.
Technologies that enable consumers to trace their food’s journey through the supply chain are essential for building trust and ensuring food safety, as well as enabling rapid product recalls by retailers handling the products.
OneAgrix and its eight ecosystem partners have developed a commercially viable end-to-end traceability and transparency solution. The outcome allows consumers and food distributors to access clear information about their food’s origin and confirm its authenticity. This comprehensive, turnkey solution for both suppliers and buyers is available on the OneAgrix platform.
The holistic food traceability solution connects the plate to the farm it originated from. Inexto’s identification technology tracks the product throughout the supply chain, while DNA traceability confirms the connection to the animal itself. Together, they identify the meat’s type and origin, the farm and meat processor’s identity, the authenticity of the halal certification, and the necessary health certifications for processing and import.
The certifications are stored on OriginTrail’s network operating system, utilizing blockchain technology to maintain their integrity, all accessible on the OneAgrix platform. Philippe Chatelain, CEO of Inexto, stated, “Inexto’s solutions protect over 100 billion products annually in global supply chains, providing consumers, businesses, and governments with the highest level of trust and security.”
Next is thrilled to collaborate on the halal end-to-end traceability project with OneAgrix, offering consumers halal food products with verifiable proof of origin and authenticity. “Using only a smartphone, consumers and wholesalers can authenticate food suppliers’ claims. Combining supply chain traceability with DNA provenance enables confirmation of a food product’s genuineness or detection of adulteration or substitution.
Numerous countries across continents have united in this collaborative effort to boost consumer confidence in the halal food sector, involving public-private partnerships. The collaborative project spans borders, from a halal certifier in the UK to a leading café in the UAE. Ecosystem partners chose Dubai to launch this groundbreaking and comprehensive technology, as the city is renowned for its innovation and is a global halal hub.
“We are thrilled that Dubai is the location to launch the world’s first comprehensive food traceability solution, aligning with His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum’s vision for UAE 2031, emphasizing food security through cutting-edge technology and innovative approaches,” said Diana Sabrain, CEO of OneAgrix. “Industry players across continents have united to improve the integrity of the halal food sector. This pioneering, comprehensive end-to-end food traceability project sets the gold standard for food transparency,” Ms. Sabrain added.
OneAgrix’s halal digitization project will enhance traceability and transparency in the halal sector, according to Dr. Awal Fuseini, Halal Sector Manager at AHD B. The UK meat industry is well-positioned to continue supplying premium halal meat products to the growing halal market, and this digitalization project is expected to bolster consumer confidence in their products.
