In a significant nod to the evolving dynamics of the global halal market, the Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (MATRADE) proudly hosted the 11th edition of the Malaysia International Halal Showcase (MIHAS) Awards on September 21, 2024. This year’s event celebrated the standout contributions of Halal leaders within the halal industry and marked a major stride toward sustainability and innovation.
With an eye on the future, MATRADE introduced a new award category focusing on sustainability, recognizing businesses that successfully integrate eco-friendly practices into their operations. This move aligns with global efforts to combat climate change and promotes sustainable development within the halal sector, reinforcing MATRADE’s commitment to environmental stewardship.
The awards ceremony spotlighted pioneers across various sectors, including cosmetics, personal care, pharmaceuticals, and biotechnology, emphasizing the integration of halal principles in diverse market segments. The rigor of the selection process, conducted by a panel of industry and academic experts, ensured that only the most innovative and committed candidates were honored.
Among the highlights was Adabi Consumer Industries Sdn Bhd, taking home the Product Excellence Award for its halal-certified pet food, PowerCat. HYT Cross Border received the Services Excellence Award for its innovative e-commerce solutions. Another notable winner, Callabio Manufacturing Sdn Bhd, was celebrated for its halal syrups, which offer a unique Malaysian flavor to various dishes and beverages.
The introduction of the Sustainability Award saw B-Crobes Marketing Sdn Bhd winning for its research-driven initiatives to enhance gut health and manage non-communicable diseases, showcasing the potential of sustainable practices within the industry.
Dato’ Seri Reezal Merican Naina Merican, Chairman of MATRADE, lauded the diversity and innovation at this year’s awards, stating, “The impressive representation from halal lifestyle products and services sectors indicates the dynamism and innovation that drive the halal industry. This is pivotal in solidifying Malaysia’s role as a leader in the global Halal market.”
The event underscores MATRADE’s strategic focus on sectoral diversity and sustainability, which is in line with the National Halal Industry Master Plan. This aims to position Malaysia as a global leader in innovation and highlights the versatility and global appeal of Malaysia’s halal industry. Halal leaders from various sectors showcased their innovative products and services, demonstrating the industry’s potential for growth and development.
