The “Thailand Halal Assembly 2023,” hosted by the esteemed Halal Science Center at Chulalongkorn University, set the stage for this transformative journey. This landmark event, held at Nouvo City Hotel, gathered experts and innovators under one roof, focusing on “Digitalizing Halal Initiatives for Fostering Halal Trust.” High-profile attendees included Mr. Wan Muhamad Noor Matha, Speaker of the House of Representatives of Thailand, and Mr. Aroon Boonchom, Chularajmontri, signaling the importance of this initiative at the highest levels.
Under the visionary leadership of Assoc. Prof. Dr. Winai Dahlan, the Halal Science Center is pioneering efforts to mesh traditional halal principles with cutting-edge digital technologies. This year’s assembly, themed around digitalization for trust-building in the halal sector, underscored Thailand’s ambition to lead in halal science and digital innovation.

The assembly showcased three pivotal conferences:
- The International Halal Science and Technology Conference 2023 (IHSATEC 2023) brought together 71 scholars from across the globe, presenting research that promises to shape the future of halal science. Their findings, poised for publication in the Journal of Halal Science, Industry, and Business (JHASIB) 2024, signal a leap towards global recognition and standards in halal science.
- The 16th Halal Science and Business International Conference (HASIB) became a melting pot of ideas with over 30 speakers from more than ten countries. Discussions spanned digital innovations, food security, and the integration of technology in halal assurance, reflecting the sector’s dynamic nature and its intersection with global trends.
- The 9th International Halal Standards Conference highlighted Thailand’s digital prowess with showcases like the Halal Route app, designed to make Thailand a more accessible destination for Muslim travelers, and the pioneering Diamond Halal Blockchain, enhancing transparency and trust in halal supply chains.
Moreover, the Halal Science Center’s exhibition of 17 innovative research projects, ranging from health and beauty products to food innovations fortified with halal-certified ingredients, underscored the sector’s commitment to excellence and innovation.
The event’s success, marked by the participation of at least 500 onsite and over 5,000 online attendees from 38 countries, and the signing of MOUs with 15 international organizations, showcased Thailand’s commitment to building a globally trusted halal ecosystem.
