The ongoing conflict in Gaza has evolved into what many are calling the Palestine War, a liberation struggle that has dramatically impacted global politics. With increasing unity among Arab nations, Palestine is poised to achieve its liberation, paving the way for peace and security in the Middle East through a two-state solution.
The intense conflict in Gaza has exposed the brutal realities and blatant disregard for international law. However, Arab unity offers a beacon of hope. Recently, the Arab League convened in Bahrain, where they collectively committed to a global conference aimed at implementing the two-state solution.
The Bahrain Declaration calls for an international conference under United Nations auspices to resolve the Palestinian issue. It emphasizes the end of the Israeli occupation of all occupied Arab territories and the establishment of an independent, sovereign Palestinian state. This declaration aligns with the international community’s vision for a just and comprehensive peace.
For over two decades, Arab nations have been strengthening their stance on the two-state solution. The significant breakthrough came in 2002 with the Arab Peace Initiative, although it faced rejection from Israel and consistent backing from the US. The recent conflict has only intensified the Arab world’s resolve. In November, leaders from Arab and Islamic countries reiterated their commitment to peace in a meeting in Riyadh.
Despite Israel’s continued aggression, Arab-backed diplomacy has been accelerating. On March 25, the UN Security Council called for an immediate ceasefire, which Israel ignored. In April, the UN Security Council voted overwhelmingly for Palestine’s membership in the UN, despite US opposition. The UN General Assembly followed suit with a decisive vote supporting Palestine’s bid for membership.
Legal efforts are also mounting. The International Court of Justice (ICJ) issued a crucial interim judgment on January 26, indicating that Israel might violate the 1948 Genocide Convention. The ICJ recently ordered Israel to halt its operations in Rafah. Furthermore, the International Criminal Court (ICC) has recommended arrest warrants for Israeli leaders, highlighting the growing international pressure.
The unity among Arab nations is effectively isolating the US, which continues to block the two-state solution. However, US isolation is increasingly untenable given its need for strong relations with the Arab world, home to nearly 500 million people and central to global energy systems. The broader Islamic world, with its nearly two billion Muslims, also remains a crucial partner for the US.
Despite the powerful influence of the Israel lobby in US politics, American public opinion is shifting. The US media and social media are increasingly exposing the harsh realities of Israeli actions in Gaza, challenging longstanding narratives and fostering greater sympathy for the Palestinian cause.
The US’s attempts to divide Arab unity, such as proposing side deals with Saudi Arabia, are unlikely to succeed. The Arab world is recognizing its unprecedented power to establish peace in the region. By remaining steadfast in their support for justice and the two-state solution, Arab nations are not only aligning with global opinion but also setting the stage for the emergence of an independent, sovereign Palestinian state.
As the Palestine War continues, the unity and determination of the Arab world are crucial in paving the way for Palestine’s liberation. With unwavering support and strategic diplomacy, an independent Palestinian state is becoming an increasingly attainable goal, reflecting the will of both the region and the international community.
