Kuching, Malaysia – In a landmark initiative to enhance economic ties and spur innovation within the Islamic world, Malaysia’s Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and Indonesia’s Vice-President Dr. Ma’ruf Amin are set to lead the Global Muslim Business Forum (GMBF) 2023. Their keynote speeches at the Gala Dinner, scheduled for November 28 in Kuching, are expected to ignite key discussions and foster collaborations.
Major Announcements and Keynote Speakers During a press conference at the State Assembly in Kuching, Sarawak’s Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan unveiled plans for the upcoming forum. He highlighted that Sarawak Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg will also deliver a keynote address at the event, which is to take place at the Borneo Convention Centre, a pivotal moment for global Islamic economic engagement.
Themes and Goals of GMBF 2023 Themed “Innovations and Transformation in Islamic Economies,” GMBF 2023 aims to serve as a central hub for sharing knowledge and fostering strategic discussions. The forum is designed to unite governments, corporations, and civil societies to delve into innovative practices across Islamic finance, green technology, agriculture, entrepreneurship, and the halal industry.
Global Participation and Impact “GMBF 2023 is more than a conference; it’s a fusion of ideas and partnerships with 37 participating countries,” stated Awang Tengah. The forum, stretching from November 28 to November 30, expects to attract approximately 1,000 attendees, including global leaders and over 60 renowned speakers who will offer insights on the latest trends and issues in Islamic economies.
Objectives and Focus Areas The forum’s broader goal is to bridge the gap between Muslim and non-Muslim communities, addressing challenges and opportunities in Islamic economies. Objectives include strengthening global partnerships, particularly in the Middle East and Asia, and promoting investment in emerging markets. Special attention will be given to green economy initiatives and climate action, aligning with global sustainable development goals.
Collaborative Efforts and Organizational Partners Hosted by the Sarawak government, GMBF 2023 is a joint effort with the KSI Strategic Institute for Asia Pacific, the Islamic Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Agriculture, and Global One. This collaboration signifies a dedicated effort to integrate the Islamic world into the global economic framework, promoting a culture of cooperation and innovation.
