Salam Standard offers Muslim travelers an innovative and comprehensive reference tool to select accommodations that align with their Islamic principles. With over 10,000 properties worldwide already part of the Salam Standard initiative, including prestigious international hotel chains like AccorHotels, Mövenpick Hotels & Resorts, Rotana Hotels & Resorts, Anantara Hotels & Resorts, and Rixos Hotels, it has become a trusted name in the global Muslim-friendly travel sector.
Notably, Indonesia’s largest hospitality firm, Archipelago Hotel Group, alongside Tauzia Hotel Management and Berjaya Hotels & Resorts, has also joined this initiative. Salam Standard categorizes properties into three distinct tiers—Bronze, Silver, and Gold—based on the amenities and services they provide to Muslim guests.
- Bronze-standard properties: Must offer prayer mats and Qibla directions (indicating Mecca) in guest rooms or on request.
- Silver-rated properties: Require the availability of halal dining options nearby and prohibit alcohol in-room mini-bars.
- Gold-rated properties: Must provide halal food certified by a recognized certification body, ensuring the highest level of adherence to Islamic guidelines.
According to Salam Standard co-founder Fadhlillah, this system is grounded in insights from an extensive global survey involving 50,000 Muslim travelers. “We asked travelers about the services and amenities they prioritize when selecting accommodation, and Salam Standard addresses these needs comprehensively. No other review portal offers such detailed information tailored to Muslim travelers,” he said.
The Salam Standard initiative aspires to become the foremost global information provider for Muslim travel content. Fadhlillah also emphasized its potential to expand significantly with the addition of more Muslim-focused travel products and services, ultimately transforming the way Muslim travelers plan their journeys. “Our goal is to motivate hotel operators to enhance their facilities for Muslim guests, ensuring they enjoy a memorable and fulfilling travel experience,” he added.
Salam Standard’s presence was prominently highlighted during the Tourism Malaysia showcase at WHTS15 (October 19-21), an event that attracted over 6,000 halal travel industry professionals. Abu Dhabi Tourism & Culture Authority (TCA Abu Dhabi) Acting Director General HE Jasem Al Darmaki underscored the importance of halal travel as one of the fastest-growing sectors in global tourism, predicting its value to double within five years.
Malaysia, already recognized as a global leader in the Muslim travel market, has shown strong support for Salam Standard. Tourism Malaysia Deputy Director General Dato’ Abdul Khani Daud remarked, “The introduction of Salam Standard will not only enable hotels worldwide to better serve this burgeoning sector but will also provide Muslim travelers with the tools to embark on a blessed journey.”
Salam Standard continues to strengthen its reputation as a key player in the halal tourism industry, paving the way for a more inclusive and well-serviced global travel ecosystem for Muslim tourists.
