On September 18th, 19th, and 20th, 2023, Kuala Lumpur played host to the esteemed Kuala Lumpur Islamic Finance Forum (KLIFF 2023), an annual event organized by the Centre for Research and Training (CERT). Collaborating with Messrs Hisham Sobri & Kadir (HSK), Amanie Advisors, the Association of Islamic Banking Institutions Malaysia (AIBIM), and the Association of Shariah Advisors in Islamic Finance (ASAS), the official theme of this year’s event was “Harnessing Islamic Finance and Social Finance for a Sustainable Future.” It is with great pride that the organizers welcomed CIMB Islamic Bank Berhad as the Platinum partner for KLIFF 2023.
KLIFF 2023 marked its 18th edition and saw the physical participation of over 600 delegates after a three-year hiatus due to the post-COVID impact. Over the course of a decade, KLIFF had established itself as a prestigious annual gathering, bringing together industry experts and key players in Islamic Banking and Finance, enjoying recognition regionally and globally. The event featured a diverse array of delegates and speakers from various backgrounds and institutions, including industry stakeholders, regulatory authorities, Shariah scholars, bankers, legal practitioners, Takaful operators, consultants, and academicians. Their collective insights and opinions contributed to the advancement of the Islamic Banking and Finance industry. KLIFF 2023 remained a platform for knowledge and experience-based discussions, debates, and solutions, while also enhancing its branding appeal and outreach to Islamic finance leaders in the Asia-Pacific Region through extensive media coverage and promotion. KLIFF 2023 was a comprehensive conference comprising the 18th KLIFF Main Forum, hosted by CIMB Islamic Bank Berhad, and the 16th KLIFF Shariah Forum, known as “Muzakarah Penasihat Syariah Kewangan Islam 2023.”
The 16th KLIFF Shariah Forum, held on September 18th, 2023, featured five conference sessions and ran until 6.00 pm. The session was inaugurated by Mr. Mohd Muazzam Mohamed, President of AIBIM, and brought together international and regional Shariah advisors, committee members, and scholars, including prominent figures such as Tan Sri Dr. Mohd Daud Bakar, Chairman of Amanie Group; Yang Arif Dr. Mohammad Johan Lee, High Court Judge; Sheikh Nizam Yaquby, a Shariah Scholar from Bahrain (Online); Sheikh Prof. Dr. Mohamed elGari, a Shariah Scholar from Saudi Arabia (Online); Prof. Dr. Aznan Hasan, Chairman of the Shariah Advisory Council of the Securities Commission; and Prof. Dr. Engku Rabiah Adawiah Engku Ali, Deputy Chairman of the Shariah Advisory Council of Bank Negara Malaysia and the Securities Commission.
The main forum (KLIFF 2023) was officially opened on September 19th, 2023, by Datuk Abdul Rasheed Ghaffour, the Governor of Bank Negara Malaysia. This event aimed to promote a global understanding of the Islamic financial system and attracted delegates from around the world, as well as local participants. Distinguished speakers with expertise in the field were invited to share their knowledge and experiences. KLIFF 2023 featured over 40 renowned international and regional speakers in 5 special presentations and 7 sessions. These speakers included Suhaimi Ali, Assistant Governor of Bank Negara Malaysia; Dwi Irianti, Director of Islamic Financing at the Ministry of Finance Indonesia; Dr. Bello Lawal Danbatta, Secretary-General of IFSB; Dr. Mohamad Damak, Global Head of Islamic Finance at Standard & Poor’s Global Ratings (Dubai UAE); Dr. Tarik Akin, Head of The Department of Participation Finance at the Finance Office, Presidency of Turkiye; Ahmad Shahriman Mohd Shariff, Chief Executive Officer of CIMB Islamic Bank Berhad (Platinum Partner), and many more.
