The 4th World Islamic Tourism Conference (WITC) 2024 Partnerships, organized by the Islamic Tourism Centre (ITC), officially commenced today, bringing together over 500 delegates, industry leaders, and policymakers to discuss the future of Islamic tourism. This year’s event, held on 12 and 13 September, focuses on the theme of “Forging Connections” and covers critical areas such as Muslim-friendly travel, growth opportunities, and inclusivity in the global tourism landscape.
The conference was inaugurated by YB Khairul Firdaus Akbar Khan, Malaysia’s Deputy Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture, who delivered a keynote speech urging stakeholders to embrace innovation, promote sustainable practices, and strengthen global partnerships in Islamic tourism. He emphasized the socio-economic impact of the Muslim tourist market and Malaysia’s continued leadership in the Muslim-Friendly Tourism and Hospitality (MFTH) sector.
In his address, YB Khairul said, “The Islamic Tourism sector and the Muslim tourist market represent boundless opportunities poised for growth. Malaysia’s well-established MFTH ecosystem highlights the massive potential of the global Muslim-friendly tourism industry.”
The WITC 2024 features a dynamic lineup of expert speakers from countries such as Bosnia-Herzegovina, Indonesia, Italy, Saudi Arabia, Spain, and Turkiye. Key sessions include discussions on promoting Islamic heritage, connecting Muslim tourists in the digital space, and the economic opportunities of Islamic finance in the travel industry.
With over 50 million Muslim women entering the global workforce, the conference also addresses the impact of this trend on tourism behavior and market demand. Additionally, the event offers delegates insights into how countries like Malaysia, Singapore, Uzbekistan, and Saudi Arabia are promoting Islamic heritage as a key attraction for both Muslim and non-Muslim tourists.
Attendees will have ample networking opportunities with leaders from across the tourism, hospitality, and halal industries, fostering collaborations and exploring the latest advancements in Islamic tourism.
