In a remarkable display of culinary and agricultural prowess, nearly 100 Pakistani companies are making their presence felt at this year’s Gulfood exhibition, hosted at the prestigious Dubai World Trade Centre. This significant participation underscores Pakistan’s growing influence and ambition within the global food industry.
The Pakistan Pavilion, a beacon of the nation’s rich food heritage, was officially inaugurated by Faisal Niaz Tirmizi, Pakistan’s Ambassador to the UAE, at Zaa’beel Hall 6. His insights revealed an optimistic trend: exports of Pakistani food products to the region have surged by an impressive 40% over the past year, with rice and meat products leading the charge in terms of growth.
This year’s Gulfood expo, renowned as the largest food and beverage exhibition in the Middle East, draws participants from over 100 countries, showcasing a diverse array of food products, from staples like rice and dairy to exotic spices, herbal concoctions, and refreshing beverages. Pakistan’s substantial involvement highlights its pivotal role in the global food sector, offering a glimpse into the country’s vast agricultural and culinary potential.
Ambassador Tirmizi’s remarks shed light on the strategic importance of dairy products from Pakistan, which have recently made significant inroads into the UAE and other Gulf markets. With Pakistan ranked as one of the top milk producers globally, the ambassador’s emphasis on the country’s dairy export capabilities at Gulfood is both timely and strategic.
The broader vision articulated by Ambassador Tirmizi speaks to the heart of Pakistan’s economic ambitions: leveraging its “huge natural potential” to spur economic prosperity through increased exports. This vision is not just about showcasing products but also about telling the story of Pakistan’s rich agricultural heritage, its resilient farmers, and innovative agro-industrialists who are determined to explore untapped markets and enhance the country’s export footprint.
Supporting this vision, senior officials from the Pakistani missions, including Hussain Muhammad, the consul-general at the Pakistan Consulate Dubai, and Adeem Khan, the commercial counsellor, visited various stalls organized by the Trade Development Authority of Pakistan. Their participation underlines the collective effort to promote Pakistani food products on a global stage, reinforcing the message that Pakistan’s agro-based industries are indeed the backbone of its national economy.
As the Gulfood expo continues to attract global attention, the spotlight on Pakistani exhibitors not only highlights the country’s culinary and agricultural innovations but also positions Pakistan as a key player in the international food market. This strategic engagement at Gulfood is a testament to Pakistan’s commitment to expanding its export horizons and securing a prosperous economic future through the power of its food industry.
