In an intriguing and educational voyage, I had the privilege of visiting the Mondelli-operated Halal slaughterhouse, nestled 400 kilometers away from Sao Paulo, Brazil. Accompanied by fellow delegates from the halal industry in Kazan, Russia, Lebanon, and Brazil, this journey was made possible through the expert guidance of Sheikh Adel from Fambras Halal in Brazil. Our objective was to unveil the inner workings of the Brazilian Halal slaughterhouse industry, dispelling myths and shedding light on the meticulous processes that ensure the production of high-quality halal meat in Brazil.
Mondelli Slaughterhouse: The Epitome of Halal Excellence
Mondelli, a renowned but relatively small player in the meat processing industry, is committed to producing halal meat of the highest standards. Operating under the rigorous halal certification of Fambras Halal, this establishment specializes in the humane slaughter of cows in one of their fully halal slaughterhouses, fully adhering to the principles of halal.
Our delegation was given the unique privilege of witnessing the halal slaughtering process up close and personal. The primary objective was to gain a profound understanding of the unwavering dedication and precision that goes into ensuring that the meat produced at Mondelli fully meets the requirements of halal in all its facets.
Getting Acquainted with the Halal Slaughtermen
The heart of any slaughterhouse lies with its skilled professionals responsible for executing the halal slaughtering process. During our visit, we had the opportunity to meet the individuals who played a pivotal role in this complex procedure. This involved engaging with the skilled Muslim slaughterers, whose expertise and dedication to halal principles were evident in their work. Additionally, we had the privilege of interacting with the halal supervisor of the plant, Mr. Ali from Morocco. He is a key figure in safeguarding the integrity of the halal process from start to finish.
Guided by Mr. Adel Yahya, a prominent figure responsible for overseeing all halal slaughterhouses in Brazil under Fambras Halal, we delved into the intricacies of halal certification. As a top representative of Fambras Halal, Mr. Adel provided invaluable insights into the comprehensive world of halal slaughtering in Brazil with a special reference to the Halal slaughterhouse we visited earlier this week.
Unveiling the Halal Slaughtering Process
Our visit offered a comprehensive look at the halal slaughtering process, step by step. The objective was to debunk myths surrounding halal practices being followed by the slaughtermen in the plant and provide an accurate portrayal of the commitment to ensuring the meat is halal-compliant.
The core elements of the halal slaughtering process encompass:
- Invocation: Prior to the commencement of the slaughtering process, a sacred invocation, known as “Bismillah” (in the name of Allah), is recited. This invocation underscores the sanctity of the process.
- Sharp Blade: A finely honed blade is employed to guarantee a swift and humane slaughter. This precision minimizes the animal’s pain and suffering.
- Blood Drainage: Thorough blood drainage is of paramount importance to maintain the purity and halal status of the meat. Any shortcomings in this regard can render the meat haram (forbidden).
- Halal Certification: The Mondelli-operated slaughterhouse operates under the strict oversight and certification of Fambras Halal, ensuring that each step aligns with halal standards.
