In a fashion world that’s increasingly embracing diversity and inclusivity, H&M is stepping up its game by launching a Modest Fashion Line, aptly named the LTD Collection. This move positions H&M alongside pioneering brands like Nike, American Eagle, and Macy’s, which have already recognized the growing demand for modest fashion options.
Scheduled for an exclusive online debut on May 3, with a follow-up release on May 24, the LTD Collection marks H&M’s foray into designs specifically crafted with modesty in mind. This collection stands out with its array of embroidered, flowing garments, including chic tunic and trouser sets, and kaftan dresses adorned with shimmering details, all thoughtfully designed with long sleeves and hems to cater to the modest dresser.
Pernilla Wohlfahrt, H&M’s head of design, shared insights with Glamour on the genesis of this collection, citing a noticeable uptick in customer interest towards modest dressing in recent years. “With H&M’s presence in 69 markets, our goal is to embrace diversity and offer something for everyone, ensuring we are inclusive to all the markets we serve,” Wohlfahrt explains. This dedication to inclusivity is reflected in the LTD Collection’s aim to cater to a broad audience, with women’s apparel priced between $59.99 and $129, and accessories ranging from $34.99 to $49.99.
The concept of modest dressing isn’t entirely new to H&M. The brand made headlines in 2015 with a campaign featuring Mariah Idrissi, a Muslim woman donning a hijab, showcasing H&M’s commitment to diversity early on. “We’ve previously included modest options in our range,” Wohlfahrt notes, “and this spring, we’re consolidating these offerings into one cohesive collection, making it easier for customers interested in modest fashion to find and shop these items.”
The LTD Collection is more than a nod to past initiatives; it’s a forward-looking endeavor aimed at providing a wide array of styles and choices to a global fashion community. “There’s been a long-standing interest in modest fashion,” Wohlfahrt observes. “We wanted to create this collection as a versatile option for our customers who lean towards modest dressing.”
While the collection is poised to appeal to those who dress modestly for cultural or religious reasons, Wohlfahrt emphasizes that the LTD Collection is designed with universal appeal in mind, offering fashion-forward, conservative silhouettes that blend seamlessly with H&M’s signature trend-driven aesthetic. “Our intention is to offer fashion for everyone, regardless of personal style,” Wohlfahrt asserts.
As the spring season approaches, fashion enthusiasts and modest dressers alike can look forward to exploring the LTD Collection, a testament to H&M’s commitment to diversity, inclusivity, and fashion for all. This initiative not only enriches H&M’s product offering but also underscores the brand’s role in leading the charge towards a more inclusive fashion industry.
