The Indonesian Ulema Council’s Assessment Institute for Foods, Drugs and Cosmetics (LPPOM MUI) will organize an international halal expo to help Indonesia create its own market for halal products amid regional free trade.
The fourth International Halal Expo (INDHEX) 2014 is scheduled for Oct. 22-25 in Jakarta, agency director Lukmanul Hakim said as quoted by Antara news agency on Friday.
Indonesia, a potential world halal food hub, would be able to export its halal products in the ASEAN Economic Community (AEC), which is set to officially kick off next year, through the expo, which is expected to draw “loyal” consumers of halal products, according to Lukmanul.
The AEC will allow wider access for products and services and their flow within the Southeast Asian region.
Lukmanul said rapid development of science and technology in food, medicines and cosmetics had boosted world consumption of halal products.
“The consumption […] is even higher following increased understanding that halal products are qualified products,” he said.
