The Islamic Religious Council of Singapore has accepted the Halal certification issued by the Maldives, the Islamic Ministry announced on Sunday.
Islamic Minister Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed said that this is the first time the Maldivian Halal certification has been approved by a foreign country, and that it is a great success to the country. He noted that the approval has been issued for a period of three years.
“Since the distribution of Maldives Halal certificates, a wider market was opened for the export business in the Maldives. After the approval of the certificate by Singapore, the market is looking forward to an even bigger expansion,” he said.
MIFCO, Felivaru Fisheries – both state run companies – and Horizon Fisheries are the three companies which have been granted the Halal certification so far. A number of products by these companies use the certification.
