Japan’s demand for halal products has seen remarkable growth, with Malaysia’s halal exports to Japan reaching RM 3.65 billion in 2022. This increase is driven by Japan’s preparations for the Osaka World Expo 2025 and its efforts to cater to a growing Muslim population and international visitors. With MIHAS 2024 support, Malaysia continues to solidify its position as a leading global halal hub, well-positioned to meet Japan’s needs and further strengthen bilateral trade.
The Malaysia International Halal Showcase MIHAS 2024 Support, currently underway in Kuala Lumpur, provides an excellent platform for Malaysian exporters to present their halal products and connect with global buyers, including those from Japan. Organized by the Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (MATRADE), MIHAS is the world’s largest halal trade fair and holds a Guinness World Record for the largest halal trade show attendance. Last year’s MIHAS generated RM 3.2 billion in total sales, including significant contributions from the Japanese market. This year’s edition targets RM 3.5 billion, reinforcing Malaysia’s leadership in the global halal economy.
Speaking on MIHAS 2024, MATRADE’s Trade Commissioner in Tokyo, Mr. Zuaziezie Zulkefli, emphasized Japan’s strategic importance. “Japan continues to be a crucial market for Malaysia, particularly in the halal food and beverage sector. We at MATRADE are committed to supporting our exporters, ensuring they meet Japan’s standards and capitalize on the growing opportunities in the Japanese market,” said Mr. Zuaziezie.
MATRADE Japan plays a critical role in facilitating trade between Malaysia and Japan. The Tokyo office offers a range of services, including market intelligence, business matching, and assistance with local regulations and halal certification processes. MATRADE Japan acts as a key liaison between Malaysian exporters and Japanese buyers, navigating the complexities of the Japanese market and ensuring smooth entry for Malaysian halal products. Through these efforts, MATRADE Japan continues to expand Malaysia’s halal export footprint in Japan, fostering stronger bilateral trade relations.
With MATRADE Japan’s dedicated support and the rising demand for halal products in Japan, Malaysia’s halal exports are set to grow further, solidifying Malaysia’s position as a global leader in the halal industry.
