In 2023, the Tatarstan Muslim Religious Directorate made notable strides in promoting interfaith peace, preserving the Tatar language and cultural traditions, and engaging in charitable activities. Notably, the directorate supported individuals involved in the special military operation, dispatching humanitarian aid and organizing visits to the Luhansk People’s Republic.

Looking ahead to 2024, Tatarstan plans to pioneer in Islamic finance through an experimental launch, aligning with global trends in ethical and faith-based financial practices. The year is set to be marked by significant themes: the Year of Family, Islamic Sciences and IT Technologies, and Halal Lifestyle. Innovations include opening a Halal center in Kazan, establishing Russia’s first Muslim laboratory for pig DNA detection in PCR tests, and introducing a Muslim-friendly loyalty system.
A highlight of the upcoming year is the organization of a republican Iftar under the aegis of the Russia – Islamic World Strategic Vision Group, set to be a federal-level event with international participation.
A recent round-table discussion at the regional Investment Development Agency focused on Islamic (Partner) Financing, addressing challenges and future prospects in Islamic banking. This discussion is part of Tatarstan’s broader strategy to integrate Islamic financial principles into its economic framework, reflecting a progressive approach to blending traditional values with modern financial practices.
