Aihtsham Rashid is set to introduce Hurayra Halal Pet Food, a pioneering 100% halal-certified pet food company in the UK, starting with a specialized range of cat food products. This new brand promises to fill a significant gap in the market for natural, high-protein, GMO-free, and preservative-free pet food options, catering specifically to the needs of Muslim pet owners.
Based in Leeds, Yorkshire, Rashid’s initiative aims to address the challenges he faced in finding suitable halal cat food that aligns with Islamic dietary laws. These laws stipulate that halal pet food must be processed and packaged according to strict standards of cleanliness, hygiene, and ethical animal treatment. Notably, Hurayra’s products will exclude pork and its byproducts, ensuring humane treatment of all animals involved in the production process.
The demand for such products is on the rise globally, driven by a growing number of Muslim pet owners who prefer their pets’ diet to reflect their own religious practices, especially when pets share their home environment. Research conducted by Rashid indicates a potential market of approximately 800,000 Muslim cat owners in the UK, with a vast majority currently relying on non-halal supermarket products, which may risk cross-contamination, particularly with fish-based foods.
Hurayra Halal Pet Food will offer an initial product line featuring three flavors—tuna, ocean fish, and chicken—alongside a specially formulated chicken and fish blend for kittens. These recipes are designed to be free from artificial additives and enriched with essential nutrients such as vitamins A, D, and E, to boost the immune system and maintain a healthy, shiny coat.
To mark its launch, Hurayra is offering new customers a free sample of their cat food along with a complimentary pet food bowl, available directly through their website. This launch not only provides a valuable new option for conscientious pet owners but also enhances the diversity of ethically produced and religiously compliant pet foods available in the UK market.
