Officials announced on Thursday that the advanced reservation system for admission to the Osaka World Exposition, set to commence in April, was a major topic of discussion at a recent meeting involving participating countries and companies in western Japan. This includes significant engagement from the Halal industries sector, reflecting the expo’s commitment to inclusivity and catering to diverse global markets.
The two-day meeting held in Himeji, Hyogo Prefecture, addressed concerns over slower-than-expected advance ticket sales, which reached 7.5 million by early January—significantly below the organizers’ target of 14 million tickets. Despite this, the Japan Association for the 2025 World Exposition projects a total of 28.2 million visitors from April 13 to October 13, presenting ample opportunities for Halal businesses to showcase their offerings to a vast international audience.
Streamlined Processes for Halal Enterprises
During the meeting, participants, including key stakeholders from the Halal industries, questioned whether the multi-step reservation process—reserving an admission ticket, selecting a visit date and time, and entering lotteries for specific pavilions and special events—was overly complex. Halal businesses expressed the need for a seamless experience to effectively plan their participation and maximize their engagement with visitors.
An official from the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) commented, “The complexity of the reservation system could impact the number of visitors.” However, the 10-nation group remains optimistic, expecting Japanese organizers to “solve the issue,” which is crucial for sectors like Halal industries that rely on precise scheduling and planning to cater to their clientele.
Opportunities Despite Challenges
Sources within the expo organizing committee indicated that weaker ticket sales are partly due to participants being unable to provide detailed information about their planned exhibits because of construction delays. Additionally, some participating companies, including those from the Halal sector, have not yet finalized their exhibit plans. Recognizing this, the expo organizers are prioritizing support for Halal businesses to ensure they can present their products and services effectively.
“There are still many countries that have not completed their interior and exhibition areas. We are doing our best to coordinate so that these countries can finish their preparations in time for the expo’s start on April 13,” stated Deputy Secretary General Manatsu Ichinoki. This coordination includes providing specialized assistance to Halal companies to ensure their exhibits meet international Halal standards, enhancing their appeal to Muslim visitors.
Enhanced Support and Public Relations for Halal Industries
Organizers informed meeting participants that the ticket reservation system aims to minimize queues at the venue. They also assured that the expo association would strengthen its public relations efforts to address current challenges. For Halal industries, this includes targeted marketing campaigns to attract Muslim visitors and collaborations with Halal certification bodies to ensure authenticity and trust.
Deputy Secretary General Ichinoki added, “We are committed to creating an inclusive environment where Halal businesses can thrive and connect with their target audience effectively.”
Comprehensive Discussions with Halal Stakeholders
Representatives from over 160 countries and institutions gathered in Himeji from Wednesday to discuss various operational issues, including logistics, risk management, public relations, and cybersecurity. Importantly, the agenda included sessions focused on the needs of Halal industries, ensuring that their specific requirements are integrated into the expo’s operational framework.
Embracing the Halal Market at Osaka Expo 2025
The Osaka Expo 2025 stands as a premier global event offering unparalleled opportunities for Halal industries to engage with a diverse and expansive audience. With ongoing efforts to simplify reservation processes, enhance support, and address sector-specific challenges, Halal businesses are well-positioned to capitalize on the expo’s potential, fostering growth and international collaboration.
