Philippine food exporters achieved impressive sales of $50.65 million at the Gulfood 2023 food and beverage expo in Dubai, as reported by the Department of Trade and Industry’s (DTI) export promotion arm, the Center for International Trade Expositions and Missions (CITEM). This remarkable success, which saw 18 exporters exceed their targets by over 300%, highlights the growing interest in healthy and halal-certified products from the Philippines.
Between February 20 and 24, Gulfood 2023 showcased various products under the FOODPhilippines banner, including fresh and processed fruits and vegetables, processed marine products, ethnic and gourmet items, non-alcoholic beverages, confectionery, biscuits, pastries, and other food and beverage categories. According to CITEM, the participating exhibitors generated 400 inquiries during the trade show, facilitating the establishment of new export leads and connections.
Gulfood is the region’s largest food and beverage sourcing event, with 48% of exhibitors utilizing the expo as a gateway into the global market. CITEM underscored the value of the global halal food market, estimated at $1.5 billion in 2023 and projected to reach $2.5 billion by 2027, as per the projections by research firm Business Research Co.
CITEM organized the successful Philippine participation in Gulfood 2023 in collaboration with the Philippine Trade and Investment Center-Dubai. This outcome demonstrates the potential for Philippine food exporters to tap into the lucrative halal market and cater to the rising demand for healthy food options worldwide.
The global halal food market has experienced significant growth in recent years, fueled by an increasing Muslim population, rising disposable incomes, and growing consumer awareness about halal-certified products. The market’s expansion presents an opportunity for Philippine food exporters to diversify their product offerings and meet the needs of a broader audience.
In addition to the sales generated at the expo, the Philippine food exporters’ participation in Gulfood 2023 has increased their visibility and brand recognition in the global market. This exposure will likely lead to future business opportunities and collaborations, both within the halal market and beyond.
Through the DTI and CITEM, the Philippine government has been actively promoting the country’s food and beverage sector in international trade shows and events. This support is aimed at bolstering exports, generating employment, and contributing to the overall growth of the Philippine economy.
The success of Philippine food exporters at Gulfood 2023 is a strong indicator of the potential for growth and expansion in the global halal food market. It highlights the need for continued government support and investment in the sector and the importance of nurturing strong relationships with international buyers and partners.
In conclusion, the Philippine food exporters’ outstanding performance at Gulfood 2023 demonstrates the growing demand for healthy and halal-certified products in the global market. By focusing on product innovation and quality, Philippine food exporters can further establish their presence in the global halal food market and capitalize on this expanding sector’s opportunities.
