The Sheikh Abdullah bin Zaid Al Mahmoud Islamic Cultural Centre, also known as Fanar, under the Ministry of Endowments (Awqaf) and Islamic Affairs, has proudly introduced the inaugural Qatar International Arabic Calligraphy Competition, famously termed Al Raqim. This highly esteemed competition is designed to become a pivotal platform for celebrating and advancing the rich art and cultural heritage of Arabic calligraphy. By promoting this traditional art form, Al Raqim aims to inspire artists worldwide, support cultural exchange, and preserve the Arabic language’s artistic expressions for future generations.
Competition Details and Participation of Al Raqim
Entries for the Al Raqim Calligraphy Competition will be accepted until December 26, 2024. Open to individuals aged 18 and above, the competition invites passionate calligraphers from around the world. Participants must submit their entries in a sealed envelope to the Sheikh Abdullah bin Zaid Al Mahmoud Islamic Cultural Centre, located in Doha, Qatar. Categories and Prizes
The competition boasts a total prize pool of 1 million Qatari riyals (approximately $275,000), making it one of the most lucrative calligraphy competitions globally. There are five categories, each recognizing eight winners. The categories include:
- Thuluth Script: Jeli and Regular
- Nashk Script
- Diwani Jeli Script
- Nasta’liq Jeli Script
- Kufic Quranic Script
