Doha, Qatar — The Department of Da’wah and Religious Guidance at the Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs has proudly concluded its inaugural summer course at the Al Noor Learning Center. This groundbreaking program, which ran for three weeks, has set a new standard in enriching young Qatari students with a deep understanding of the Holy Qur’an and essential Islamic values.
An Educational Initiative at Al Noor Learning Center
The Al Noor Learning Center’s summer course was designed to offer students a meaningful way to utilize their vacation time productively. This first-of-its-kind program aimed to instill academic and moral growth in its participants. With around 30 students aged between 8 and 15, the course was tailored to cater to different levels of religious and educational backgrounds, ensuring that every student could benefit from the experience.
The program’s core objective was to enhance students’ memorization of the Qur’an. Each participant was challenged to memorize half a juz’ (part) of the Qur’an, with a daily goal of two pages. This rigorous memorization schedule was coupled with lessons designed to deepen their understanding of Qur’anic teachings and integrate these lessons into their daily lives.
Celebrating Academic Excellence
The culmination of the summer course was marked by a special ceremony honoring the top five students who excelled in their Qur’anic memorization and understanding. This recognition was a celebration of their hard work and an encouragement for all students to strive for excellence. The honored students were acknowledged for their dedication, perseverance, and achievements in mastering significant portions of the Qur’an and embodying Islamic values.
Youssef Hassan Al Hammadi, General Supervisor of Al Noor Learning Center, expressed his pride in the students’ accomplishments. “The success of these students reflects the effectiveness of our program and the dedication of our teaching staff. By honoring these top performers, we hope to inspire all students to pursue their studies with the same level of commitment and enthusiasm.”
Comprehensive Course Structure
The summer course was meticulously structured to balance rigorous academic instruction with engaging and educational activities. The weekly schedule was divided into two distinct segments:
- Religious Instruction: On Sundays and Tuesdays, students focused on memorizing and internalizing Qur’anic verses. These days were dedicated to enhancing their religious knowledge and understanding of Islamic principles. Lessons were designed to not only help students memorize verses but also to understand their meanings and implications in everyday life. This approach ensured that the students could apply what they learned in practical and meaningful ways.
- Values-Based Activities: On Mondays and Wednesdays, the program shifted focus to values-based recreational activities and field trips. These sessions were organized in collaboration with notable partners such as the Internal Security Force (Lekhwiya), the Museum of Islamic Art, and Al Andalus schools. The activities included educational excursions and interactive experiences designed to reinforce the values and principles learned during the religious instruction days.
These field trips provided students with an opportunity to explore their cultural heritage and engage with their community in a dynamic way. Visits to institutions like the Museum of Islamic Art allowed students to connect with their cultural and religious heritage, while interactions with the Internal Security Force provided insights into the importance of civic responsibility and community service.
Enhancing Personal Development
In addition to religious education, the summer course aimed to foster personal development among students. The program was designed to strengthen aspects of faith, morality, and values. Through a combination of academic and recreational activities, students were encouraged to develop a well-rounded character, build self-confidence, and acquire new skills.
Dr. Ahmad Abdulqader Al Farajabi, Educational and Family Supervisor at Al Noor Learning Center, emphasized the holistic nature of the program. “Our goal was to provide a comprehensive educational experience that goes beyond traditional classroom learning. By integrating Qur’anic memorization with values-based activities, we aimed to nurture students who are not only knowledgeable about their religion but also well-rounded individuals with strong ethical values.”
Impact on the Local Community
The success of the summer course has had a positive impact on the local community, reflecting the Al Noor Learning Center’s commitment to contributing to Qatar’s educational and cultural landscape. The program has set a precedent for integrating religious education with personal development, offering a model that other institutions may look to replicate.
The course has also strengthened the relationship between the Al Noor Learning Center and various community partners. Collaborations with organizations like Lekhwiya and the Museum of Islamic Art have enriched the educational experience for students and provided valuable opportunities for community engagement.
