The 15th International Economic Summit, under the theme “Russia-Islamic World: Kazan Forum,” is set to commence on May 25th in Kazan, focusing on a range of issues, including health tourism. This year’s summit seeks to deepen Russia’s ties with Islamic nations by targeting medical tourism as a key area of cooperation, particularly attracting tourists from the Islamic world to Russia’s expanding healthcare sector.
According to IRNA, Russia had previously launched halal medical tourism, a concept now gaining traction as more certified sanatoriums and medical centers are established to cater to Muslim tourists. This initiative aims to welcome guests from Islamic countries, particularly those from the Persian Gulf and other members of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), to the Republic of Tatarstan. The growing halal tourism sector provides travelers with a variety of certified services, ensuring compliance with Islamic practices.
The Kazan Forum also serves as a platform for economic interaction between Russia and the Islamic world, promoting cooperation and development. Medical tourism has been identified as a central topic at the upcoming meeting, where experts from Islamic countries will discuss strategies to develop this sector across Russia and the OIC member nations. This dialogue aims to foster collaborations that could drive sustainable growth in both regions.
The “Russia – Islamic World: Kazan Forum” has a rich history. Since its inception in 2009, it has grown into a leading international venue for discussing cooperation and implementing joint projects. This year’s summit is particularly significant, as it marks 15 years of fostering relations between Russia and the Islamic world, highlighting a long-standing commitment to economic integration and cultural exchange.
Kazan, the capital of the Republic of Tatarstan, is situated in the European part of Russia, nestled between the Volga and Kama rivers. In addition to hosting the Kazan Forum, the city will also host the BRICS sports competitions from June 11 to 24, followed by a BRICS leadership summit in October 2024. These events underscore Kazan’s role as a hub for international cooperation, showcasing its potential as a platform for dialogue and engagement between Russia and various global partners.
