In a significant stride towards advancing halal science, Chulalongkorn University’s Halal Science Centre recently orchestrated the “International Halal Science and Technology Conference 2018” (IHSATEC). This prestigious event, now in its 11th iteration, was a vibrant showcase of the latest scientific breakthroughs in halal product development, firmly establishing Thailand’s “Diamond Halal” brand on the global stage.
Held at the Bangkok International Trade & Exhibition Centre (BITEC) in Bang Na, the conference drew esteemed academics and professionals from across the globe, including notable delegates from Brunei, Pakistan, Thailand, Turkey, New Zealand, Malaysia, Switzerland, the United States, Egypt, and Indonesia. Assoc Prof Dr. Winai Dahlan, the visionary founder and director of the centre, expressed his excitement about the international turnout and the rich content presented this year. “Our goal is to refine halalization with scientific precision, selecting ingredients that not only comply with religious mandates but also uphold the highest quality standards. This approach distinguishes our ‘Diamond Halal’ brand from traditional ISO certifications, demanding a higher level of creativity and innovation,” Dahlan noted.
The conference also cast a spotlight on the burgeoning field of halal cosmetics, an area where the Centre is making significant strides. Scientist Kasinee Katelakha highlighted the meticulous efforts underway to ensure that cosmetic products meet stringent halal standards, emphasizing the importance of safety, disease prevention, and adherence to Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP). “We scrutinize every component to guarantee our cosmetics are free from the risk of contamination and are produced following the highest halal compliance standards,” Katelakha explained.
This year’s IHSATEC not only underscored the Halal Science Centre’s commitment to excellence in halal product development but also reinforced Thailand’s position as a pioneering force in the global halal industry. Through collaboration with the next generation of scientists and a focus on precision halalization, the conference showcased the depth of research and innovation driving the “Diamond Halal” brand forward, setting a new benchmark for halal product development and certification worldwide.
