Singapore-based businesses interested in producing or selling Halal products in Indonesia now have access to a tailored training program, thanks to a strategic partnership between Warees Halal Limited (WHL) and PT Insan Halal Terpercaya (IHATEC). This alliance aims to simplify the export process for businesses in light of Indonesia’s upcoming Halal certification enforcement, which the Indonesian government will implement in phases starting from October 17, 2024.
The partnership of Warees Halal and IHATEC was solidified during a signing ceremony on April 14, 2023. The exclusive 4-day training program will provide a comprehensive overview of the latest Halal policies, certification processes, and export procedures in Indonesia. This will cater to the specific needs of Singaporean businesses looking to produce or export their products to the Indonesian market.
Indonesia, with its large Muslim population, has a rapidly growing Halal trade sector. The Halal economy products and services recorded domestic spending of $184 billion in 2020, and experts project that it will increase to $281.6 billion by 2025. This significant growth potential presents vast opportunities for Singaporean businesses eager to tap into the Indonesian market.
The inaugural training program, scheduled for July 24, 2023, will be conducted online. It aims to help businesses gain a clearer understanding of the export and Halal certification requirements in Indonesia, thereby enhancing their preparedness and confidence in navigating the Indonesian market.

Collaboration for Halal Business Support and Learning Pathway
In addition to the partnership with IHATEC, WHL has also collaborated with Temasek Polytechnic (TP) to offer more comprehensive support for businesses in areas such as capacity building, research, and testing. This collaboration seeks to facilitate the development, compliance, and trade of Halal products and services globally. It also aims to provide a structured learning pathway for tertiary students and adult learners, equipping them with relevant and up-to-date knowledge, skills, and tools for a successful career in the Halal and food industry.
TP and this collaboration successfully conducted an accelerated course titled ‘Fundamentals of Food Science and Halal Certification Management’ from March 13 to April 26, 2023. This course offered learners essential knowledge and skills to manage and maintain their Halal certification, focusing on food science, the Halal industry, and certification requirements and compliance. This joint effort represents a significant milestone in integrating Halal food quality topics with innovation and industry transformation, targeting learners at various levels.
